The Margarita Snail found in cooler pacific waters is very popular due to its consistent track record of consuming all bothersome algae including dark purple/red slime algae. The snail has a brown to gray molted turban-like shell with accent colors of coralline algae present.
Due to its insatiable appetite for algae, a well-established aquarium is necessary. Provide plenty of rock work and hearty substrate. As with all invertebrates, drip acclimate at a slow rate. Keep water parameters constant, and avoid copper-based medications.
Most grazing snails will feed on diatoms, a major group of algae. Generally all established aquariums will support algae. If algae levels are low, algae flakes or strips can be added. Populate your tank with one snail per 10 gallons of water.
