Lionfish

Pterois known as Lionfish are venomous marine fish found in the Indo-Pacific, but have made their way to the US waters in great numbers.  They are found near reef edges on rocks waiting for prey. The lionfish are very beautiful and graceful to watch.  They come in many different sizes but all have vibrant pectoral fins that are venomous.  Provide plenty of hiding places and ledges for your lionfish to rest on.  Lionfish will eat most anything that will fit into their gapping mouth.  It is best to purchase smaller lionfish and train them to eat vitamin enriched foods.  Respect and stay clear of the venomous spines when cleaning or inspecting your aquarium.
