The Sand Starfish or Sand Sifting Sea Star is beige with brown bands on its arms; each arm is covered in tiny spines that help it move and locate food.
The Sand Starfish is a slow moving starfish that will move through the substrate filtering uneaten food and waste. Keep in a well-established tank with thick sandy substrate and live rock. The Sand Starfish can be harmed by rapid changes in water quality, and copper-based medications and aggressive fish.
Starfish will feed on waste, small organisms, invertebrates and algae in the rock and substrate. Also supplement their diet with small minced meaty foods such as clams, squid and shrimp.
