Description
The Black Ribbon Eel has a long black narrow body with a yellow back fin that extends to the tail. The mouth is very pointed and the nostrils protrude outward resembling a Chinese dragon.
Ribbon Eels are hermaphrodites. At the juvenile stage the color will be black ; after around two feet in length it will gradually change from black to blue and transform into a male; the next transformation will happen around a length of three feet and it will transform into a female, becoming a yellowish blue or totally yellow.
Ribbon Eels make a magnificent site in a main focal tank. Keep with more aggressive fish and have lots of anchored live rock for shelter; also have good sealing on the overflows and lids. They will eat small fishes and invertebrates and are not recommended for a reef tank. Best to keep only one Ribbon Eel per tank.
Eels will eat all meaty foods including fish, shrimp, squid, and some frozen prepared foods. Use a long feeding rod to feed your eel. They can be trained to associate when it’s feeding time.
