Description
The Blue Ribbon Eel has a long blue narrow body with a yellow back fin that extends to the tail. The mouth is very pointed and the nostrils protrude outward resembling a Chinese dragon.
Ribbon Eels are hermaphrodites. At the juvenile stage the color will be black. After around two feet in length it will gradually change from black to blue and transform into a male. The next transformation will happen around a length of three feet and it will transform into a female becoming a yellowish blue or totally yellow.
Ribbon Eels make a magnificent site in a main focal tank. Keep with more aggressive fish and have lots of anchored live rock for shelter; also have good sealing on the overflows and lids. They will eat small fishes and invertebrates and are not recommended for a reef tank. Best to keep only one per tank. Feed with feeding stick to ensure your eel gets food.
Eels will eat all meaty foods including fish, shrimp, squid, and some frozen prepared foods. Use a long feeding rod to feed your eel. They can be trained to associate when it’s feeding time.
