Description
The Whitemouth Eel or Turkey Moray Eel has a thick brown body covered with small white dots. The inside of the mouth is lined in white; this combination makes an excellent camouflage against the sand and rocks where they like to hide.
The Whitemouth Eel is an ambush predator ; it lies in wait for small fish and crustaceans that wander close to its den. The Whitemouth Eel can deliver a painful bite if provoked. Keep with large aggressive fish and have lots of anchored live rock for shelter; also have good sealing on the overflows and lids. Best to keep only one per tank. The Whitemouth Eel is not recommended for a reef tank. Feed with feeding stick to ensure your eel gets food.
Eels do not see very well and rely mostly on smell and feel, your eel will eat all meaty foods including fish, shrimp, squid, and some frozen prepared foods. Use a long feeding rod to feed your eel. They can be trained to associate when it’s feeding time.
