The Juvenile Axilspot Hogfish or Panda Hogfish as a juvenile has a dark brown body with dispersed white spots throughout. As an adult it will have a burgundy head changing to white in the midsection to yellowing toward the tail. Three dark eye-spots will form on the fins making a triangular pattern.
The Axil Hogfish is a peaceful fish that adapts very well in an aquarium environment. It is a lively fish that will explore the rubble in search of prey. One or more Axil Hogfish can be added to a tank if done simultaneously. Will eat smaller invertebrates.
