The Stonefish has a bulky body with molted patches of red, yellow white or orange to blend in with the reef or tidal pool surroundings.

 

The Stonefish is an opportunistic hunter. It sits on the bottom and camouflages itself in a color that resembles a rock or other sea debris.  It will lie there motionless and wait for prey.  The top dorsal fins deliver a very toxic sting when touched.  Seek medical attention immediately.
