The Black Seahorse is a moderate sized seahorse that can reach up to 7 inches. It may have a brown, black or yellow body depending on its environment and mood. Formidable boney curved plates make up its erect stature. There are silver accents on the back saddles.
The Black Seahorse is a good first Seahorse to have; it is quite hardy and will accept frozen foods far easier than its wild counterparts. Keep in a tank designated for seahorses only and keep tank-raised specimens separate from wild in a 50 gallon tank or larger with stationary branching structures for the tail to cling onto. Keep water movement in the tank to a minimum. Mandarin gobies and pipefish make good tank mates.
Initially offer live shrimp, over time try frozen mysis shrimp and other small meaty fare. We recommend soaking your foods in Vitality, which is a liquid vitamin, amino acid, and trace element supplement.
