The Moorish idol is a very unique fish and close relative of the Surgeonfish. It has two thick black vertical bands separated by a white and yellow band and has a very long single dorsal fin. The mouth is very protruding.
This fish is a finicky eater and may require a special diet. They may refuse food in captivity all together.
They are peaceful fish and can be housed together. Have plenty of swimming area with well-established live rock. Construct tunnels or caves for retreat areas.
Have plenty of live rock in your tank. Tangs will graze on the live rock and it will provide necessary hiding areas and swim pass-throughs.
Tangs will eat just about all fish foods; Ocean Nutrition Pellets are a perfect diet. Feed tangs with plenty of marine-based seaweed, as this will keep them healthy. Try putting seaweed on a veggie clip, or break into small pieces and feed 2-3 times per week. Ocean Nutrition Seaweed contains garlic which helps the immune system in these colorful fish.
