The Blacktail Wrasse is found in the shallow waters of the Hawaiian Islands. Juveniles are slender with a glowing green color. Adults are protracted with a gray to white vertical ridge pattern on their body. The tail and pectoral fins are shaded dark. The females are similar, only having a more bluish green body.
Thalassoma wrasses have a good track record of easily adapting to the captive environment. The Blacktail Wrasse once acclimated are known for being quite durable and long lived, though they will not harm corals, Thalassoma wrasses eat invertebrates, so they are best kept in a fish-only aquarium, best to keep only one with larger semi-aggressive fish equal in size. Have plenty of live rock with lots of good hiding places and thick sandy substrate.
The wrasse will consume a wide variety of foods. Feed vitamin enriched frozen and dry foods. Train your wrasse to eat Ocean Nutrition Pellet Food for a healthy diet.
